Hi,
My name is Chris Briscoe and I'm the new Comp-Sec.
Feel free to bend my ear on the question of competitions whenever you like - except when I'm trying to take a shot (Holly!).
Springfield Champs (club competition)
- Takes place on the Sunday after workparty Saturday of each month.
- Thirty targets (the course will be numbered) shot any style you like as long as you conform to standers and kneelers. (if you can't kneel you may shoot standing. Please see me about that. )
- Scoring is HFT style, two for a knock-over and one for a plate.
- Classes: PCP, Recoiling, Junior, Ladies,
- Shoot it when you like: get a score sheet and shoot round with a partner, mark each others cards and sign them off. Give the score cards to me or leave them in the top drawer of the little filing cabinet. Please put your full name and class on the card and date it.
- Results will be posted here and at the club.
- Prizes will be awarded annually.
King Plinker
This is a tournament that you can shoot any way you like, any time you like on the plinking range. Challenge someone to a competition. Choose a target and both shoot it. Mark your score cards: one for a hit zero for a miss. Shoot forty targets (less if you like but both shoot the same number). Give cards to me or leave in the drawer. I'll post results on this board.
Silhouette Ace
Again, any time you like whenever you like. But this time formal silhouette rules: shoot standing and each bank twice. Use the special rack scorecards for this. Leave in the drawer or give to me. I'll post scores on this board.
New years day and Easter Sunday Opens.
These will be shot to the same rules as the winter league. Prizes in all classes. Barbeque. Silhouette shoot.
Pistols at Dawn
What about a competition for the pistoleros? We could put out some extra close targets. If people are interested I suggest we shoot it on the same day as the Springfield Champs.
HFT
We could organize matches with local clubs. Lee Valley would probably be interested in taking us on.
Winter league
Every winter the South East Field Target Associations (SEFTA) organizes a series of FT competitions between the clubs in the region. Our Holly is the SEFTA Comp-Sec and puts a lot of time and effort into it.
It's a great way to get started in FT. The course is 40 targets and they are not set so far away as to be beyond a novice shooter.
Most clubs will field one or more teams which will be graded. Whether or not you shoot for a team you will be graded, so if you are new, you will only have to beat other new shooters to win a prize.
Can't you just picture that cup on the mantelpiece?
Six clubs will be taking part:
- E.T.L FTC section
- Iceni Marksmen
- Kent Woodsmen
- Springfield ARC
- West London rangers
- Thorp Hall & Wakering Target Club

Well… I hope everybody enjoyed the first of The Springfield Champs! This is going to be a regular Springfield fixture. It will be held once a month on the Sunday following the first Saturday in the month (work party day). So there is no excuse - turn up! Have fun and improve your shooting.
Handicaps:
The next shoot will include a system of handicaps. I will paint (on my whim) some targets with a red or green flash.
Targets with a red flash are to be shot standing by A grade and above.
Targets with a green flash are to be shot kneeling by A grade and above.
King Plinkers:
Just to enlarge on this a bit.
The idea is to create some competitive amusement to those of us who aren't so agile.
It can be shot sitting at a table.
Challenge your mate to a competition. The first person picks a target and you both shoot it. Then the second person picks a target and you both shoot that. Score HFT style, but it doesn't really matter.
The idea is a bit like conkers. The winner of your little competition becomes a "one'er". ('Fraid then loser is a nothing'er.) He, or she, can go and challenge somebody else and if they win they become a "two'er". And so on… Like conkers a winner inherits the score of the person they beat. So, if a two'er challenges a three'er and wins they become a fiver'er. The loser keeps their two'er ranking however.
What should happen, is that people with high ranking will get challenged a lot. And someone with a low ranking can rapidly move up by challenging the big boys!
Give it a try!
Next Champs day I hope to see you pistoleros come prepared for the challenge.
Chris.

Glad to see that the competitive sprit is taking hold!
I am sorry that I didn't get the results of the two impromptu springer competitions. They looked hard fought and fierce. I'll try and make a point of writing these events up in the future
Winter League
We have a good A team for the winter league, but as yet we haven't got a B team organized. If you want to shoot in a team and turn up next Sunday at Kent Woodsman, I'm sure that we will be able to fit you in.
An unofficial comp was held between D. Hollingdale, Barry McDonald, Craig McDonald and Chris Briscoe. The stake was 50P a man.
I'm sorry to have to relate that "Lucky Dave Hollingdale" (LDH) made off with the cash (again) after a tense shoot off with y'rs truly. (who would have won if it hadn't been for a regrettable technical error!). Ahhh well, tomorrow's another day.
Silhouette Ace
Craig McDonald led the way here and challenged yr 'umble scribe to a match. Glad to say that good looks prevailed and the results can be found from the front page.
We look to LDH to step up to the plate (and give us all a good laugh!)
King Plinker.
Wonder boy, (Craig McDonald) had the temerity to take on self in the first round of this exciting tournament. Again results from front page.
Acorn race.
Craig and I invented a new comp. Great fun. But more of that next week!

January 1 2007
Thanks to everybody for turning up at the first New Years Day Open. Attendance was good but it would have been nicer to see a few more faces, I guess after a night carousing the lure of the sack was just too great for many.
Well, you lie-abeds missed a great day, fine weather, an evil wind, jolly company, great barby (thanks Barry), and some excellent mulled wine (if I do say so myself).
We raised a tidy sum for Dave Baines' widow (approx 120) which will be added to at the next Winter League.
Happy New Year All.
Chris
